All the photographs for sale on this site are of exhibition quality. They are ideally suited to framing.
Prints have a plain margin of at least 1 inch (and often considerably more) beyond the quoted sizes of the actual image.
The black and white photographs of Greenland were shot on Agfapan 100 film using a Horseman HD 5 x 4 field camera with 6 x 12 cm roll film back. Making silver prints from these negatives is an extremely time consuming and costly process and those would only be sold in a limited edition or by one-off order. Therefore, to make the photographs available at a reasonable price, my original negatives have been scanned and printed digitally. The resultant ultrachrome prints are comparable with silver prints in most respects. Arguably, they are actually better in some ways, for the digital process has allowed me to make some subtle adjustments to the tonal curves, shadows and highlights that would be impossible to achieve with traditional silver printing. The archival quality of ultrachrome prints has similar longevity to traditional silver prints.
The colour prints of Scotland have all been shot digitally, processed on a professionally calibrated high grade monitor using Photoshop to correct the colour and tonal values and make other routine adjustments, subjected to no additional manipulation or enhancement, and outputted on a large format Epson printer using Colorburst RIP software with dedicated colour profiles.
All the photographs on this site have been printed digitally on appropriate premium media. I currently print on Epson premium semi-gloss photo paper of 250 grams per square metre or Epson heavyweight enhanced matte paper (unless otherwise stated or requested) using ultrachrome pigmentary inks for maximum permanence.
Please note:
Prints should always be displayed behind u/v glass or perpsex, away from direct sunlight. Ultrachrome prints should have a lifetime permanence (in excess of 50 years) provided they are not exposed to ultra violet light. (This applies to all printed media.)
Prints will be supplied carefully rolled up in acid free tissue within strong tubes suitable for posting.
